Important Message :

We at Orthodontists of Maryland support Maryland Governor Hogan’s Executive Order of March 16, 2020, that requires orthodontists to perform only procedures that are critically necessary for the maintenance of health for a patient for the duration of this catastrophic health emergency.

We have always maintained a high level of sterilization and disinfection procedures in our office to ensure the health and safety of our patients. Rest assured that we will implement any additional recommended procedures necessary to continue excellent orthodontic care in a safe environment.

There is nothing more important to us than the health of our patients and their families. For everyone’s safety, we are following the guidelines of the American Association of Orthodontists which is based on the recommendation from White House Coronavirus Task Force member Dr. Deborah L. Birx.

Emergency visits or non-elective procedures, including those considered to be orthodontic emergencies, are defined as remedying one or more of the following:

· Significant oral pain (Keep in mind many patient “emergencies” can be managed by wax or sectioning an archwire with cuticle cutters/nail clippers.)
· Infection
· Limited function
· Physically traumatic event yielding the above

Unless any of the above is true, office visits to repair or replace loose brackets and bands, as well as lost or broken retainers/aligners, should be considered elective. Discretion will be used should a long period of time pass in such a state.

Please remember to practice great oral hygiene and a healthy diet while cooped up at home. Boredom can lead to increased eating so be sure to brush and floss frequently.

We urge our patients to continue to wear their rubber bands and retainers as previously directed.

Please call our office if you are experiencing a true orthodontic emergency or have any questions or concerns.

Although this unexpected health emergency is causing a delay in our ability to see our patients, we intend to resume routine office visits as soon as possible. We are committed to proving each of our patients with a beautiful smile.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.
